Peterborough Big Sing 2015

This was another great end of year celebration of music for the schools that joined Peterborough Young Singers for their Big Sing production. Following on from an afternoon's rehearsal alongside Stringfever we welcomed an auditorium full of family, friends and local dignitaries for the evening performance.

Each choir showcased their talents before Stringfever performed their set either side of the interval. The finale saw every performer back on stage to sing as one massed youth choir accompanied by the professional string quartet.

Everyone wound their way home bouyed up by the entertainment they had experienced having thanked PYS for a wonderful evening.

The Music Takeover

Saturday 18th April

The wonderful spring weather set up a great start to our summer term as we took part in the Music Takeover event promoted by Peterborough Presents and Vivacity.

Peterborough Young Singers held a workshop in Beckett's Chapel between 1pm and 2pm before moving to the main stage in Cathedral Sq to perform a number of pieces from our up-coming Big Sing concert.

Thank you to everyone who joined us, we really enjoyed welcoming you and we hope to see you again soon.

Some photos from our day can be found on our Facebook page in an album covering the afternoon's proceedings.

Swing Into Christmas

Saturday 13th December

Swing into Christmas

Swing into Christmas

Our end of term concert was performed alongside Fortissimo the swing band that joined us on Saturday December 13th at St.John's Church, Cathedral Square.

Introductions, and a short prayer, were made by Revd Canon Ian Black the Vicor of St.John's Church. As is always the case at this venue the lighting of Cathedral Sq. shone through the church windows and set a festive mood.

Alongside our conductor for the evening, Alan Colbran, we would like to thank everyone who helped serve the interval refreshments.

A special thank you and congratulations go to all the soloists from the Senior Choir who lead the following songs:

  • It don't mean a thing, if it ain't got that swing - Jordane White
  • I wanna be like you - Sean Watterson & Johnny Ellard

Many other swing band favourites were performed in a mixed set, shared between the choir and the band, before we finished with some seasonal favourites including:

  • Frosty the Snowman
  • Let it Snow!
  • White Christmas
  • Christmas Rock

Some photos from the concert can be found in our Gallery and on our Facebook page.

Letter from Mayor David Over

Letter of thanks from Mayor David Over

Our big event for this year was a great showcase for all the young people who performed; both within the Youth Ensemble and as part of all the choirs, including Peterborough Young Singers, the School Cluster Choirs and together as the Massed Youth Choir. The concert was an enormous hit with all the audience and we would like to thank all the young people who worked so hard to put together an outstanding concert.

“The Peterborough Big Sing 2014″ was an event that, with the comments we are receiving, will act as a wonderful forerunner for next year's event; when we will be welcoming back Stringfever UK.

Images from the day can be found in our Gallery and on our Facebook Page.

There are three videos on Youtube that were taken during the concert; do have a look

To all the schools who have joined us over the last two events, do sign up for next year and spread the word!!

Please email events@peterboroughyoungsingers.org.uk to find out more about The Peterborough Big Sing 2015.

What a wonderful day and a super concert!!

A really big thank you to everyone who took part; the concert came together outstandingly well, not a piece missing from the musical jigsaw puzzle.

The hard work put in by Emma Benyon and Helen Yeeles in preparing the Hampton Cluster Choir is really appreciated by PYS.

Martlesham Brass were excellent, and thank you for allowing Ruby to conduct during the concert, Adam; I'm sure she'd appreciate just a little more warning next time!

We were really please to have City of Peterborough Youth Ensemble guest starring and hope we will be working with you more closely in the future.

Great feedback received from Graham Casey - Cabinet Advisor for Culture.

Some photos from this concert can be found on this website or on our Facebook page.

The Christmas Concert was a great success, thank you to all the choir members who took part; especially the soloists who sang beautifully.

It was a privilege to have representation from Shine at the event. Thank you to Tom for videoing the singing and for photographing the proceedings; we're looking forward to seeing the results. Glad the camera batteries lasted!! :-)

With donations for interval refreshments and a surplus from ticket sales we were able to raise £150.02 for Shine. Such a wonderful result .... we really appreciate your generosity.

East Community Centre Carols

Friday December 6th

It was the centre’s Christmas get together.

The performance lasted for around 45mins and was a great taster for the PYS Carols Concert held the following Saturday.

All the Centre Members really enjoyed singing along with the popular songs.

Bring a Friend Day!!

Saturday November 16th

The second of our 'Bring a Friend' days for the Autumn Term.

We had a number of new choir members join us for the Saturday morning rehearsals and once again they settled in wonderfully and really enjoyed their morning's singing.

Saturday September 7th

The date of our Annual General Meeting (AGM) has been set for our first Saturday back after the summer holidays; Saturday 7th September. Please put the date in your diaries and arrive for a prompt start at 11:30am.

It is PYS' 20th Anniversary year and there will be lots of exciting events to inform you of and discuss. See you all on the 7th September…
