Past Events

In this section we'll keep a catalogue of past events—with a small review—so that everyone can get a full sense of how active we are!

Carol Singing at Dobbies Garden Centre

Saturday December 3rd 2011

The choir sang at Dobbies Garden Centre for two hours entertaining all Dobbies' customers who were getting ideas for Xmas gifts. PYS received many lovely comments from all who heard them sing, saying how nice it was to see the choir enjoying themselves so much.

A big thanks to all the parents who stayed to support us; a wonderful taster for our concert with the Gildenburgh on the 17th December.

Autumn Term Bowling

Saturday November 19th 2011

After a busy, but productive, 2 hours rehearsing for Xmas the choir walked to Lakeside Bowl on New Road; everyone who went really enjoyed their three hours bowling. One of the highlights of the afternoon was being able to share in the birthday celebrations of two of our senior choir members ... the chocolate cake was delicious!!

After the Choir's morning rehearsal had finished at 12noon we broke for lunch and made our final preparations for the arrival of Hampton Hargate and Nene Valley Primary Schools.

The workshop started at 1pm and everyone worked very hard preparing for the 4.30pm concert for the parents. The concert covered pieces from Early English 14th Century Rounds to contemporary pieces such as Take That's 'Rule the World'.

Everyone had such a good time and the feedback from the visiting parents was very positive. Thank you to:

  • those members of PYS that came for the full day and helped mentor the two school choirs
  • Marie Hayes and Emma Dobbs for the hard work they put in with the Hampton Hargate choir this term
  • Eve Hetherington for the hard work she put in with the Nene Valley choir
  • Julie Thompson for helping supervise Nene Valley on the day
We are really looking forward to the next Workshop in February!

Wedding of Gabriela & David (All Souls Church)

Saturday September 17th 2011

Order of Service Front Cover

Order of Service

The wedding began at 1pm; the choir arriving half an hour before so that they could run through each of the three pieces they were to sing:
  • Do you not know (Thomas Morley 1557-1602) - Sung as part of the welcoming for the congregation
  • Fields of Gold (G M Sumner) - Sung during the signing of the register
  • Beautiful Day (Bono) - Sung during the signing of the register, a piece requested by Gabriela and David

Since the wedding we have received a thank you from the happy couple, and they have kindly provided the following testimonial:
"It was a great day, and we were so happy we had the choir to take away the seriousness of being in a church and they sang beautifully throughout the whole service and gave courage to the guests to sing the hymns. I will certainly recommend PYS to my friends and family."

Rounding off the 2010/2011 year for PYS, our summer concert "Music from the Movies" was performed at the Fleet Community Centre. We were joined by Hampton Vale Primary school; and were really pleased to be able to continue to strengthen our links with local schools

A big thank you to Anne Byrne, Head Teacher, for the support she gave to the project and especially to Helen Yeeles the school choir's Music Leader.

It was a wonderful evening and lots of fun as always; with a very high standard from both PYS and Hampton Vale. The Mayor of Peterborough was our very special guest for the evening; a standing ovation, from the Mayor and her consort, demonstrating just how special this concert was.

Listen to the BBC Radio Cambridgeshire interview with the choir advertising the concert. Well done to those who volunteered to help promote the event by saying a few words.

Barbecue

Saturday July 2nd 2011

The choir and their parents held a barbecue at Ferry Meadows after the morning's rehearsal.

Festival on the Green

Saturday June 11th 2011

The choir took part in the Festival at Orton Longueville. We sang for about 20 minutes to a large crowd. The weather stayed dry and there was plenty of opportunity to look around and take part in the other activities that were on offer at the festival.

PMM Showcase

Saturday May 7th 2011

We joined other choirs and orchestras in the PMM Showcase. This was a good chance for us to show ourselves off and help demonstrate the wide range of musical activities there are on offer in Peterborough.
The choir sang in two individual slots in Queensgate and we took part in a "Big Sing" in Cathedral Square.

Hereward Harmony Workshop and Concert

Saturday April 2nd 2011

We took part in their workshop in the afternoon and then in the "Sing for Spring" concert in the evening.

Peterborough Music Festival

Saturday March 26th 2011

This year we competed in the Peterborough Music Festival as usual. The choir performs "Salute" and "Fields of Gold" to win their class against very strong opposition.
